Dr Prins received her Ph.D. in Neurobiology at UCLA where her interests focused on developmental TBI.  From 1998-2001 she was a postdoctoral fellow at Medical College of Virginia where she studied plasticity following brain injury in the juvenile brain with Dr Linda Phillips and Dr John Povlishock.   She is currently Professor in Neurosurgery at UCLA where her research focuses on adolescent brain injuries.  Her work examines changes in brain metabolism and the use of alternative fuels for the brain as a therapeutic option for pediatrics and the effects of concussions/repeat concussions on brain injury interval, pituitary damage, gender, metabolism and risk for Alzheimer's disease after teenager concussions. She is also the Director of the UCLA TBI prevention and education program which promotes brain injury prevention and neuroscience education. She has served on the IOM committee, NIH study section,  been a member of the National Neurotrauma Society and served as the Chair of WiNTR for 3 years.
